Hadley v. Baxendale, rule of
Under the rule of Hadley v. Baxendale, "special" or "consequential" damages (as opposed to "general" damages which so obviously result from a breach that all contracting parties are deemed to have contemplated them) will only be awarded if they were in the parties' contemplation, at the time of contracting, as a probable consequence of a breach of contract.
